General
Birch has been used to make drums for decades now, mostly thanks to the powerful sound it produces. In these shells, however, Tama combined the birch with bubinga, giving them the same level of power but adding a beautiful array of warm lows to the sound. This five-piece shell set consists of a 22 x 20-inch virgin bass drum, 10 x 6.5 and 12 x 7-inch toms, and 14 x 12 and 16 x 14 floor toms with a Champagne Sparkle finish.
Shells
The 6mm-thick tom and floor tom shells consists of three inner plies of bubinga wrapped in four outer plies of birch, while the bass drum has an additional ply of birch, making that shell 8 mm thick. The end result is a set of durable shells with a great sound. That sound is enhanced even further thanks to the StarCast tom mounting system, which suspends the toms from the hoops instead of the shells for optimal resonance, while the floor tom legs feature special air chambers that prevent the vibrations in the shell from disappearing into the ground. Both the toms and the floor toms are equipped with the Quick-Lock system, that makes setting up your kit a quick and easy task.
Hardware
The bass drum in this shell set is a virgin bass drum, meaning that cannot mount the toms on it. Luckily, Tama included a pair of MC69 tom holders so you can attach them to any regular stand. The wooden bass drum hoops are held in place by special claw hooks, which have a rubber lining that keeps them from damaging the hoops and prevents them from rattling if you tune your bass drum quite loosely. All the other hoops are die-cast hoops, meaning they have no structural weak spots, and all the hardware on the shells features the same chrome finish.
