Tama PR32RZS-ROY Starclassic Performer BB Red Oyster

In creating the drum shells for their Starclassic Performer BB series, Tama combined birch and bubinga. The result is a shell set that has the powerful attack of birch and the warm lows of bubinga. It consists of a 22 x 16-inch bass drum, a 12 x 8-inch tom and a 16 x 16-inch floor tom with a durable Red Oyster Duracover wrap to give it a sleek look.

To create this kit's unique sound, Tama built the 6mm-thick tom and floor tom shells of three inner plies of bubinga and four outer plies of birch, while the bass drum has five plies of birch, making it 8 mm thick. Furthermore, the tom is equipped with the well-known Tama StarCast tom mounting system, which attaches to the hoop of the drum rather than the shell for optimal resonance. As the hoops are die-cast, they are extremely durable and evenly distribute the tension over the drumhead. Meanwhile, the floor tom legs feature special air chambers in the rubber feet that prevent the vibrations in the shell (and with them, the sound) from disappearing into the ground.

Hardware

Because this set has a virgin bass drum, you will need to mount the tom to a separate stand with the handy, included MC69 clamp. This clamp is fitted with a tom holder that is connected to a ball joint, allowing you to mount your tom at virtually any angle, while the tom and floor tom are equipped with Quick-Lock brackets that allow you to up and tear down your kit much faster. The special bass drum claw hook feature a rubber lining that keeps them from damaging the bass drum hoops and prevents them from rattling, even if you tune your bass drum very loosely. Finally, the Starclassic Performer BB shell set comes with Evans drumheads and all shell hardware has a chrome finish.
