If you want to experience unique combinations of sounds and woods, this is where Tama should experiment. The result is this three-piece shellset: a combination of walnut and birch, which makes for a unique but obviously very cool sound. This Tama WBS30RS-LOR Starclassic Walnut/Birch shellset consists of a 12 x 8-inch tom, a 14 x 14-inch floortom and a 20 x 14-inch bass drum. The entire set features an attractive Ocean Blue Ripple lacquered finish.

But, what does this 'hybrid' shellset sound like? The birch wood is on the outside of the shells. This wood provides a good dose of bright attack and punch. The walnut, on the inside of the shell, on the other hand, provides more warmth. Bright, punchy but warm drums, in other words! In the case of the toms, which are 6 mm thick each, there are 4 outer layers of birch and two inner layers of walnut in the shell. The bass drum is 8 mm thick and features 5 layers of birch and two layers of walnut.

Compact setup

The configuration of this drum kit is perfect for the drummer who wants a compact setup, doesn't want to compromise on quality or sound and finds a 'cocktail kit' just too much (or too little) of a good thing. The 12-inch tom features the Star-Cast Mounting system and a Quick-Lock bracket. The cymbals are all fitted with Die-Cast hoops and Evans drumheads. In terms of hardware, the floortomp feet are included and a one-off Tama MTH1000S Single Tom Holder.
