General
This remarkable Telecaster is the result of the collaboration between Jim Adkins (singer and lead guitarist for Jimmy Eats World) and Fender. Its design was based on the Fender TC 90, a Strat-style semi-hollow guitar that was made as a very limited edition issue in Japan between 2004 and 2005. If you're looking for a guitar that looks like a Fender Telecaster and plays like a single-cut model, you should definitely consider this Tele Jim Adkins.
Construction
The semi-hollow body and headstock of this Fender JA90 are clearly Telecaster. Its tone controls were inspired by those of vintage Fender amplifiers and give the JA90 a strong resemblance with seventies Telecaster Customs. The main differences are under the bonnet, however. This is no guitar for fans of the Telecaster twang. Its shorter scale length, two Seymour Duncan Soapbars and semi-hollow body give this guitar a sound of its very own: full, warm and well suited to styles like smooth jazz and creamy blues. The Seymour Duncans' higher output also make this JA90 a great guitar for punk and classic rock.
Sound
Distinctive features of this JA90 Telecaster Thinline include its semi-hollow body and f-shaped sound hole. These give this guitar its characteristic open sound with rounded trebles, rich mids and smooth basses. The semi-hollow body also conveniently reduces the Tele's weight. The Adjust-O-Matic bridge and shorter scale length give this guitar a sound that is less snappy and twangy than that of definitive Telecasters. The two Seymour Duncan Soapbars make this guitar a highly versatile instrument that can be used for anything between smooth jazz and classic metal. Whether or not you're familiar with Jim Adkins, his signature Telecaster is an exceptionally beautiful and very special guitar! The Fender Jim Adkins JA90 Thinline CRT is a very remarkable Telecaster. It has a scale length of 24.75 inches, 2 Seymour Duncan Soapbars + semi-hollow body.
