General
When first introduced back in 1958, the Gibson Explorer wasn't exactly a smashing success, but by the late eighties, this iconic guitar had been in action in the world's most famous venues. Built to epitomise the vibe of the 1984 Explorer, this ebony-coloured Gibson 80s Explorer comes without a pickguard, making it look even more rad and, as a sweet extra, it comes safely tucked up inside a matching guitar case.
The 80s Explorer: Fat Foundation Sound
Like most Gibson-made models, this faithful reissue features a mahogany body and neck, which are complemented by a rosewood fretboard and a newly developed set of 80s Tribute humbuckers. These pickups guarantee a chunky core sound and masses of sustain, while the playability is taken care of by a SlimTaper neck profile. To make sure the tone is ever-consistent, Gibson have polished off the build with Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners and an aluminium Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge and stop bar.
