The Jackson guitars from the JS series are excellent beginner guitars, and this Jackson JS12 Dinky Gloss Black is no exception. Although it’s a beginner’s guitar, its looks, feel and sound give away its true Jackson character, a brand most popular for somewhat heavier music genres. If you're a fan of these genres, the JS12 won't let you down. The humbuckers have been reinforced with ceramic magnets, and because the body is made of basswood, the mid tones are emphasised to make it easy to cut through the entire mix. In contrast to the JS11, the JS12 has 24 frets to give you just that bit of extra range - per string and in general.
The sound of the JS12 Dinky
Besides the basswood body, the neck also contributes to the sound. It's subtle but certainly doesn't go unnoticed. The combination of a maple neck with an amaranth fretboard makes the guitar sound bright and tight which really brings out the attack of the strings. As stated before, this guitar has two humbucker pickups, one at the neck and one at the bridge position. They can be used in three combinations, so you can choose your favourite tone colour yourself. Especially in combination with effect pedals, the tone and volume knobs really leave their mark on this Jackson sound.
