Back in 1982, Squier released their very first affordable iteration of the icon that is the Stratocaster. Now a legend in its own right, this is the very special Squier Vintage Edition 40th Anniversary Stratocaster. The solid body has been contoured in all the right places, giving the classic shape a snug and familiar feel, while the satin-gloss lacquer and aged, chrome-plated hardware complete the tasty picture, and effortless playing comfort is supplied by a C-profile, vintage-tinted maple neck complete with twenty-one narrow-tall frets.
The 40th Anniversary Stratocaster Vintage Edition: The Flair of a Classic Strat
Squire have polished off the vibe of this special edition Strat with a fitting anodised aluminium pickguard and a set of three Fender Designed Alnico single-coil pickups specially developed to wield renowned tonal flexibility framed by just enough sparkle, just enough emphasis on the overtones, and a light mid-range dip to support tasty, Strat-style spank and growl. Add on the Vintage Style Synchronised tremolo bridge for the necessary vibrato effects and dive bombs, and you're set up with a more-than-solid playing partner.

Meteen uit de verpakking smoelt de Wide 2 tone Sunburst body met de vintage tinted neck bijzonder volwassen. Net zoals de inmiddels collector’s items van 40 maar ook 29 jaar geleden ( MIJ 1993 modellen in de meest prachtige kleuren zoals o.a. Maui Blue….)
De strat voelt licht aan, hangt mooi in balans, geen scherpe fret einden, sterker nog de randen voelen iets gerold net of er al jaren op gespeeld is. Mooie matte iets amber finish en gelukkig geen plakkerige hoogglans lak over rug van hals. De hals is ook niet zo dun maar mooi vintage C feel met ook iets flinkere frets.
De hardware is vintage gemaakt, leuk gedaan en het lijkt ook allemaal wel goed spul op het eerste oog.
Goede vintage style stemmechanieken, mooie brugplaat met Squier gestempelde stalen zadels, vintage output jack.
De elektronica werkt heel goed, de volume en tone pots draaien volwassen en ook in standje 1 kun je de tone regelen ( brug pickup ). Het geluid van de alnico 5 pickups is heel warm en best bassig in neck positie 5 en stand 4. Midden pickup stand 3 is daarentegen weer lekker fris te spelen en terug naar de brug loopt de kenmerkende super scherpe icepicky sound uit de speaker.
Open geschroefd vind ik een eerste esthetische fout, de backplate is niet goed ingeschroefd met een scheur in de zijkant van de back cavity als gevolg. Tevens dient de brug veranderd te worden want op het massablok ik dus iets teveel bezuinigd er zit een ondefinieerbare legering metaal in.
Benen topkam, gitaar is helemaal afgesteld à la Clapton, met weinig ruimte om de tremolo stang te laten bewegen. Eigenlijk maar goed ook, want zo is de resonantie perfect en is de gitaar fantastisch om te bespelen. Alleen de dunne e-snaar dient nog een beetje bijgesteld te worden, verder staat de zadels perfect op 9 - 42 snaren afgesteld. Ook de actie hoogte is netjes en mooi afgesteld op de 9,5 inch radius van de hals.
Geen fretbuzz, snaren trillen lekker lang door, dit is een heerlijke gitaar, ook om mee te nemen naar het podium voor gigs. Ik zou er niet mee gaan dive bomb benden maar verder blijft ie prima op stemming!
In de basis een prachtige Squier om te modden met een paar prachtige pickups naar eigen smaak, misschien een betere brug, en dat is precies zoals de Squiers van weleer ook nog steeds zo gewild zijn….
