General

Based on the original student model that since became an underground legend, the Squier Sonic Mustang has a shorter 24 inch scale length, meaning that this model isn't just irresistibly cool, but irresistibly playable. The reduced scale means that the overall length of this electric guitar is shorter, which doesn't just ease the reach for beginner guitarists, but pushes the frets closer together and reduces the string-tension to make holding more complex chords and grabbing notes much easier. On top of that, the solid poplar body is both extra-thin and extra-lightweight to reduce the load on your shoulder when wearing a strap.

The Squier Sonic Mustang: From Student Model to Cult Classic

The original Fender Mustang was first released in 1964 alongside the Duo-Sonic and Musicmaster to provide comfy student models for the fledgling guitarist. A few decades later, the humble Mustang had since grown into the stuff of alternative legend, having found its way into the hands of names like Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, Brian Cox of Blur and Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth. It even helped create the sound of bands like Death Cab for Cutie and Panic at the Disco. Here, you're getting all of that illustrious history decked out with the ultra-playing comfort of a C-profile maple neck and the classic sound of a pair of passive single-coil pickups.

Price quality ratio is super good on this guitar. I play many fenders and gibsons, and I bought this one for modding. I think the body and neck are great (especially the neck is extremely playable). I think the only downsides are: (1) pickups are muddy (so replace them); (2) the stock strings that come with it are 09's, which makes the string tension too low; (3) the action was too low, so you have to do some minor tweaking to get it to sound right. I would say that the pickups are the most problematic on this guitar and require swapping when this guitar gets into the hands of any serious and experienced player. As for the rest, its a true bargain!
