Sterling by Music Man JP60-MGR John Petrucci Mystic Green

Sterling is a subsidiary of the famous Music Man brand and produces a variety of affordable versions of popular models. In terms of looks, sound and playablility, they are not so different from their high-end counterparts. The JP60-MGR John Petrucci Signature, for instance, is an affordable version of the Music Man JP6. This beautiful guitar has an eye-catching lacquer named Mystic Green that changes from green to purple to blue depending on how the light falls on it.

Sterling JP60 MGR: Petrucci specs

The body of this instrument is made of basswood and has a maple neck that is bolted on for a tight, highly-defined sound. A rosewood fretboard with 24 frets features the characteristic luxury JP Shield position markers. The Sterling JP60 MGR has a 16-inch fretboard radius that makes it perfect for string bends and fast guitar playing. A direct sound and endless sustain is down to the fact that the pickups are sunk into the body and the aforementioned robust neck connection.

Hardware and pickups

The Modern Trem, which is based on the original tremolo bridge from Music Man BFR JP6, is also sunk in to the body. It has a fully floating design that feels very smooth for both upward and downward bends. The luxury locking machine heads keep the JP60D-RRB perfectly in tune. Finally, the JP60 MGR is fitted with two high output Sterling humbucker pickups that sound powerful and full and remain tight and defined even at high gain and crystal clear cleans.
