Epiphone's Inspired by Gibson range would be incomplete without the presence of the King of all Flat-Tops. The All-Solid Masterbilt J-200 has all the handsome looks and stunning and adaptable sound as the original wide-hipped classic. Made famous by the hands of country, folk, and rock legends (including Ms. Parton and Mr. Lennon themselves), this super-jumbo-shaped electro-acoustic guitar is authentically finished with an engraved scratchplate, a dapper moustache-shaped bridge, and a full set of keystone tuning buttons. This level of detail is continued in the crown-shaped mother-of-pearl headstock inlay that's echoed by the position markers lining the fretboard.
The Masterbilt J-200: A Broad Base, Sweet Definition, and Outstanding Presence
Unplugged, you're not just supported by the jumbo body shape but the solid wood used for the build - resulting in rich, colossal presence. The solid sitka spruce top lays down a broad foundation which is built on by the definition and stunning spread of the maple back and sides. This tonal presence is finished by the resonant, glued-in round-C profile 2-piece maple and mahogany neck. To ensure faithful stage sound, this guitar has been fitted with a revered Fishman Sonicore system for pure and natural feeling amplification that can be tweaked as needed using the discreetly placed controls, just inside the soundhole, completing an ode to a classic model with some welcome contemporary tweaks.

Wrote the following about Epiphone Inspired by Gibson J-200 Aged Natural Antique Gloss Electro-Acoustic Guitar
Ik heb de gok genomen en er eentje laten komen zonder erop gespeeld te hebben. De gitaar werd in perfecte staat snel geleverd. Dit is een instrument met louter natuurlijke ingrediënten: massieve esdoorn body, benen topkam en zadel, paarlemoer inlays, 'spruce' bovenblad, enfin dat kun je nalezen. Alleen de brugpennen zijn van plastic, maar die zijn makkelijk te vervangen en ik ben er nog steeds niet achter of dat nou eigenlijk veel uitmaakt.
Omdat de kop en het fretboard 'gebonden' zijn, heeft deze jumbo een zeer luxe uitstraling. Esdoorn zie je ook niet vaak op een western model, dus daarmee is de j200 echt een exclusief instrument.
Het massieve hout van de body moet natuurlijk zijn ware aard nog tonen als je er een paar jaar op gespeeld hebt, maar zo direct uit de verpakking klinkt de gitaar al mooi. Volgens kenners moeten er forse snaren op (12-53) en de meegeleverde Gibson Bronze doen hun werk uitstekend. Ik experimenteer met Elixir 10-47, maar heb het idee dat dan niet alles uit de gitaar gehaald wordt.
Het piezo-element onder het zadel is een Fishman Sonicore. Of er winst te behalen valt met een L.R. Baggs (zit in de dure originele j200)? Geen idee, maar als je nóg dichter bij het origineel wilt komen...
Her en der zie ik reviews van kenners die niets begrijpen van deze serie 'Inspired by Gibson', omdat ze zo dicht bij de dure voorbeelden komen. Tenslotte is Epiphone een dochter van Gibson. Wie zal het zeggen? In ieder geval lijkt me dit een goeie investering. In de eerste plaats vanwege het speelplezier en de prachtige gitaar en wellicht in de toekomst als het gaat om de waarde van zo'n instrument met deze specs. Bravo Epiphone!
