You could never call the complete Colossus Slim a bargain and, while it has been chopped up into more manageable chunks, the VCF section alone is still quite a mouthful, even for any super-serious sound designers. A proud member of the four-part Colossus Quartz Series, the Analogue Solutions Colossus Quartz AS250-VCF can be coupled with the three other modules in the range to build the Colossus Slim. This module deals with the VCF side of things, so it supplies eight filters, four envelopes, two reverbs, ring modulators, slew limiters and a spacious 31 by 15 modulation matrix - all in one go. Try to get the same level of scope with a stack of separate modules and you'd probably pay a touch less for the pleasure, but you probably wouldn't achieve the same sheer level of quality either. Definitely not for the faint of heart or for studios that are still paying off their first mortgage, but definitely a breathtaking synth tool for the fully paid-up sonic warriors among us.
