General
With regards to synthesizers, renowned manufacturer Dave Smith Instruments has earned quite a name for itself. With years of experience under their belt, Dave Smith's engineers developed the DSM01 Curtis Filter, a 2/4-pole low-pass filter with a VCA. Its powerful and saturated sound is used by the Prophet 5, 8 and 12, as well as the Evolver and the Mopho. If you want to program or play powerful, brash parts, the DSM01 Curtis Filter is exactly what you need.
Dave Smith Instruments DSM01 Curtis Filter: fully analogue
The Curtis Filter comes courtesy of Doug Curtis, who designed the filter's basic chip. Add this module to your modular synth, and you'll be able to produce an analogue sound that's usually only found in valuable vintage synthesizers. The filter and its resonance can be controlled by means of voltage control inputs, and the filter slope is adjustable from 12 to 24 dB per octave. It's also possible to control the filter via an internal VCA. A boost function, finally, allows you to generate additional harmonics by means of distortion.
