General
The Universal Audio Apollo 16 is a high-end external audio interface that boasts outstanding sound, as well as four SHARC DSP processors. Its 16 analogue inputs and 16 analogue outputs run via four D-sub 25 connectors, and thanks to a built-in UAD-2 Quad DSP card, these signals allow for real-time editing with high-grade UAD plugins. The Apollo 16 communicates with your computer via a FireWire 800 or Thunderbolt connection.
Apollo 16: analogue I/O
With the Apollo 16, Universal Audio has set its sights on the professional market. Most professional and project studios already have a decent mixing console and preamps, and are just looking for a way to optimise their recordings. Featuring a high-grade analogue circuit, high-end converters and DC-connected outputs, the Apollo 16 has everything it takes to deliver superior audio quality. Should 16 channels of I/O not be enough, you can always expand your setup by connecting a second Apollo 16 via MADI. That way, you'll have 32 channels of high-grade I/O at your disposal!
Real-time UAD plugins
A well-organised digital mixer allows you to use UAD plugins for any channel in real time, as four built-in SHARC DSP processors process your signal with an imperceptibly low latency of under 2 milliseconds. UAD plugins - which can also be used in your DAW - are renowned for their natural sound and life-like emulation of analogue studio classics. The Apollo 16 comes with the 'Analog Classics' plugins, and also supports the other plugins you can download from uaudio.com.
Buy this product before December 31st, 2015, and you'll receive a free UAD-2 Quad after registration at Universal Audio.
Tips or comments about this product
- Comes with a Thunderbolt expansion card.
- Please note: if you are going to use the Apollo in combination with Windows 7 (64 bits), you need a PCIe-to-FireWire 800 card. Make sure to use only the Sonnet Allegro FW800/E or the Syba SD-PEX30009.
