General
The Apollo 8P Quad audio interface offers no fewer than eight microphone inputs. With years of experience under their belt, Universal Audio has found a way to combine recording and mixing functionality in a single practical device. As this Apollo is equipped with a Quad-Core UAD processor, it allows you to use Universal Audio's detailed plugins. Compared to its predecessors, this interface features a completely redesigned AD/DA structure that treats you to detailed, open sound and a wide dynamic range without any noise or humming. That's what we call high-grade audio!
Universal Audio Apollo 8P Quad: microphone preamps
If you'd like to add some warmth to your recordings, the right preamp goes a long way. Fortunately, Universal Audio has quite a lot of expertise in that area. Their Unison circuit, which is found in many preamplifiers, is modelled by the Apollo 8P's preamps, enabling you to enjoy that familiar tube sound on all eight inputs. The interface's microphone inputs run via XLR/jack combo connectors, which are complemented by two front-mounted Hi-Z inputs for electric guitar and bass. The routing for these inputs is determined by means of an included console application.
UAD processing
The Universal Audio company has a rich history that includes, among other things, the basic design of the modern-day mixer. The manufacturer also produces various dynamic processors. To optimise their devices' performance, Universal Audio came up with the UAD system, which emulates both classic and modern effects in exceptionally high quality. The UAD devices themselves supply the necessary processing power. Naturally, the Apollo 8P QUAD also boasts this UAD functionality, which means you can use plugins without burdening your computer's CPU. To get you started on the right track, the interface comes with the Realtime Analogue Classics Plus Bundle.
