Ever since dfe 1980s, John Petrucci has been pushing the boundaries within progressive metal and the DiMarzio DP707BK LiquiFire 7 is a result of a recent collaboration between DiMarzio and Petrucci. Because he liked the sound of this element so much, Petrucci played on Dream Theater's album Black Clouds & Silver Linings on a guitar fitted with a DP707 LiquiFire in the bridge position. 7-string

The sound of a neck element that John Petrucci prefers is easily translated to a seven-string. The high frequencies sound thick and round while the low frequencies sound deep and tight. This makes the elements great for playing slick solos and deep bass parts. The seven-string version of the Liquifire is not an exact copy of the six-string version. Because a seven-string guitar adds an extra low string, the element has been adapted accordingly. Thus, the attack is slightly sharper and the element is tuned to produce more low.
