General
This gorgeous Celtic bodhran by Meinl measures 18 inches in diameter by 4 inches thick. Its frame is made from rubber wood and it has a goatskin drumhead which you can tune by means of an included Allen key. On the inside of this traditional Irish instrument, there's a cross bar so you can hold it and apply specific pressure and dampening techniques with ease.
Technology
The bodhran is played either with the bare hand and fingers or with a tipper, which is a special two-headed drum stick, also known as a beater. It's possible to play a wide range of fast rhythms and patterns by means of a specific wrist technique when using a tipper, or finger techniques when using the bare hand. Sometimes, brushes are even used. Have a look at the videos below for a taste of what this instrument can do. Even though there are different bodhrans used, the playing technique remains the same.
