General

The kanjira is related to the frame drums, as are, for example, the tambourine, the pandeiro, the tamborim, the tar and the bodhran. Every culture does have its own frame drum. The kanjira originates from southern India, where it is mainly used in classical Indian (Carnatic) music. Various hand and finger techniques are used when playing the kanjira.

Meinl FD7KA Kanjira

This hand drum has a diameter of 7.5 inches and was strung with a goat skin. The frame is made from the Hevea brasiliensis Muell.-Arg, a rubber tree with excellent sound characteristics that originally grew deep in the Brazilian jungle. Today, these trees are grown on an eco-friendly plantation in Asia. Only spent trees that no longer produce rubber are used to build furniture and musical instruments, among other things. The frame has a depth of 2.25 inches, allowing you to easily apply pressure to the sheet to vary pitch. Attached to the frame are 3 shells that produce a clear sound.
