Meet the The Oeser by Key Instruments: a character-packed, virtual baby grand for Native Instrument Kontakt (Player). While piano libraries by other brands usually encompass massive, brand-new grands, this virtual Franz Oeser piano packs the rich and atmospheric sound of am old, broken-in grand, which is certainly not to say it sounds like an out-of-tune honkytonk — quite the opposite as a matter of fact.

The Oeser

While this Kontakt library is a beefy 32GB collection of samples, it loads surprisingly fast on any decent system and is fully compatible with the free Kontakt Player (downloadable via Native Access). It only takes about ten seconds to load 2.5 gigs so you can start playing this virtual grand baby in pretty much no-time. What's also great is that the library includes plucked strings, which usually requires a separate library. Not with The Oeser. This extensive sample library even offers open/closed lid positions and various microphone settings. Add a solid reverb and an equaliser and you'll easily unlock the full potential on offer here.

Who's It For?

Since the loading times are short and the price is much better compared to a real baby grand, the Oeser is great for producers and digital piano enthusiasts alike, especially if you already have a laptop, a set of speakers and a (cheap) digital piano or MIDI keyboard that you can use to control the virtual keys. Not only that, it takes up a lot less living room space than an actual digital piano-plus-frame set-up!
