Category information

Whether you're in a band or you're a travelling solo-performer, gigging with a keyboard or portable digital piano comes with a problem: the built-in speaker system is nowhere near powerful enough to entertain a room full of people. That's where keyboard amplifiers come in.

Keyboard Amps: Never a Bad Idea

If you've already taken a look at our range of keyboard amps, you'll have noticed that almost all models are equipped with a front grille. These units are much more robust than any pair of speakers or studio monitors and have actually been designed to handle gigs, band rehearsals and life on the road.

Mono and Stereo Keyboard Amplifiers

Keyboard amps are available in mono and stereo form. Stereo amps sound awesome at home but aren't much use when you're jamming it up at the park. Also, bear in mind that not every keyboard sound comes in stereo. If your keyboard is mainly loaded with mono sounds, there's no point in setting up a stereo amp.

Keyboard Amplifiers vs. PA Systems

A keyboard amplifier is particularly suited for smaller settings, like a humble outdoor stage gig or a performance at a pub. If you're taking your keyboard, digital piano or stage piano with you onto bigger stages, chances are you'll be hooked up to the in-house PA system, which is always the best solution and even allows you to use your amp as a personal monitor if needed. A fairly portable alternative to a keyboard/piano amplifier would be a column speaker system, though this is nowhere as quick-and-easy to set up, and is generally more expensive.

Frequently Asked Questions About Keyboard Amplifiers

Which amplifier can I use to amplify my keyboard?

A purpose-made keyboard amplifier is a great way to boost the sound of your keyboard or digital piano for small gigs, at-home practice and rehearsals. For bigger gigs, you're better off with PA speakers.
