The Rycote 5cm Super Softie 19/22 3D-Tex for a shotgun microphone is one of a series of super-soft windshields. What makes it special is 3D-Tex, a special sleek material that slips over the mic like a sock and has a clear cell structure. You were probably already familiar with those hairy 'dead cat' windshields made to fit over your boom mic. This new 3D-Tex isn't only new and different, it also offers many advantages when compared to its fluffy predecessor.

The practical advantages of 3D-Tex

The sound is better and more transparent, especially in the lower regions of the audio spectrum. There are also practical advantages. If the Super Softie should get wet while recording outdoors, simply slide it off the mic and wring it out. If it gets dirty, simply remove it, wash it by hand, and squeeze the water out. Since journalists have to withstand rain and wind outdoors, it makes sense their 3D-Tex windshield has to too!
