The Akai Professional MPK Mini MK3 is an insanely compact little USB/MIDI keyboard that still somehow manages to offer everything you're going to need to start producing. This pocket-sized production tool will slot comfortably into your backpack with your laptop and is home to 25 mini-keys and a new and improved key-bed, eight endless rotary encoders, and eight pads. A mini-joystick has even been fitted so that you can tweak the pitch and modulation with nothing more than your left thumb, while a bank of controls can be used to adjust parameters like an octaver. You can even hook up a sustain pedal to this fully USB powered keyboard.

Na lang vergelijken van MIDI's besloot ik voor de Akai MPK mini te gaan. In de winkel werd ik vriendelijk te woord gestaan en werd mij de verschillende kleurvarianten laten zien. De Limited Edition variant was meteen favoriet van mij en de medewerker. Na het aanschaffen kon ik thuis direct aan de slag. Je krijgt bij het keyboard ook toegang tot Splice en vele andere handige zaken, zoals Melodics. Het aansluiten is een fluitje van een cent en het keyboard werkt uitstekend. Als je op zoek bent naar een goed werkende en compacte MIDI is de Akai MPK mini echt een aanrader. Voor liefhebbers voor wat meer toetsen zou ik voor een groter formaat MIDI gaan, maar voor mijn kleine thuisstudio is deze echter perfect!
