For anyone who wants the full range of a piano in a MIDI controller, M-Audio offers this 88-key edition of the Keystation. Despite its attractive price, this USB MIDI keyboard has a solid and complete design. The Keystation 88 can be connected to your PC or Mac via an included USB cable, providing the keyboard with both power and MIDI connectivity, making any extra cables or adapters redundant. This edition of the M-Audio Keystation comes in a new anthracite housing and features a number of practical upgrades.
M-Audio Keystation 88 II: all essential functions
Modern MIDI controllers often feature a plethora of elaborate functions and superfluous controls. The M-Audio Keystation 88 II, however, is all about playing comfort and offers nothing but the essentials. Naturally, pitch bend and modulation wheels are at your disposal, as well as a volume fader and octave up and down buttons, which are particularly practical if you're working with very elaborate or special samples. New features of this version are the transport and navigation buttons, which give you full control over your DAW without taking your hands off the keyboard.
Sustain pedal and software
To offer you a little extra expression, the M-Audio Keystation 88 II is equipped with a jack input for an optional sustain pedal (SP-2, available separately). The accessory software has also been updated for this edition: you still get the Ableton Live Lite digital audio workstation abd the virtual grand piano Eighty-Eight Ensemble by SONIVOX is also included so you can start recording and editing your key parts out of the box. An optional Apple Camera Connection Kit (available separately) enables you to connect the M-Audio Keystation 88 II USB MIDI keyboard to your iOS devices.

Dit is ook waarom ik het heel jammer vind dat na 2 keer de USB stekker eruit te halen de poort op de controller kapot is gegaan (het middelste stuk plastic is er uitgevallen). Hierdoord dacht ik dat het een goed isee was om een midi-usb kabel te kopen met een 9v power supply. aangezien deze controller ook een midi out heeft. Het blijkt dus nadat deze zijn binnengekomen dat deze controller nooit heeft gewerkt met 9v.
Hierdoor is deze controller voor mij niet bruikbaar.
Dit kan misschien een hele kleine kans zijn, maar ik denk dat hier wel voor opgepast moet worden.

PROBLEEM: Als de sequencer een song afspeelt, dan is gebleken na vele uitvoerige tests - met verschillende sequencers - Cirklon, Korg X3R en Seq - en een dozijn verschillende synth modules - dat dit keyboard MIDI data lekt
Als gevolg daarvan vermengt die dtata zich met de sequencer output song data, wat resulteert in een willekeurige hussel van noten brei etc. ongeacht hoe de MIDI filters staan ingesteld op de sequencer of op de synth modules, en ongeacht op welk channel of hoe anders dit keyboard staat ingesteld, idem of er nou wel of geen control data in de song zit.
OPLOSSING: zet voor het afspelen van de sequencer song de POWER van dit keyboard OFF! Problem 100% solved!
Voor de rest een erg fijn keyboard, mooie zachte romige kleur toetsen, vind ik erg chique vergeleken met dat ordinaire sneeuwwit van Arturia bijvoorbeeld ;) De toetsen zijn binnen een marge van circa 0,85 millimeter niet even hoog.
En erg handige shortcuts voor alle settings.
Ik geef 3 sterren vanwege de MIDI lekkage. Ware dat niet aan de hand, dan gaf ik 5 sterren.

Werkt allemaal prima. Handige "advanced" setting functies op het paneel, dus geen computer nodig om dat ding te configureren. Wat de sustain pedaal functie betreft, wel op de desbetreffende synth module de program change aan zetten, want anders sustaint die niet.
De spacing tussen de keys is niet overal exact gelijkmatig en de hoogte van de toetsen is niet overal exact hetzelfde, maar ach, dat kan de pret niet drukken voor dit belachelijk laag prijsje. Speelt best wel lekker, evenwel na wat gewenning want de vering vind ik ietwat aan de stroperige kant. Toetsen zijn wel allemaal precies even responsive.
Plastic behuizing had van mij wat stijver gemogen. De kleur vind ik saai. Liever zwart of wit maar niet donker-grijs / licht-antraciet.
Kortom, een leuk stukje engineering dat toetsenbord, geen oeverloze gimmicks op dat ding, geen configuratie computer / software nodig, ofschoon je de M-Audio Keystation 88 natuurlijk wel met een computer / daw kunt gebruiken, en een stoot garantie, nou, allemaal perfect toch. Dus 5 sterren.
