With the Keystation 61 II, M-Audio offers an affordable yet well-equipped USB MIDI keyboard with 61 velocity-sensitive, full-size keys. Connect it to your PC or Mac with the included USB cable and you can get started right away. A single USB cable provides the Keystation 61 II with power as well as MIDI connectivity. This edition of the MIDI keyboard comes in a stylish anthracite housing and features various new, practical functions.
Intuitive controls of the M-Audio Keystation 61 II
The main focus of the Keystation 61 II is the playing of music parts. As such, it is equipped with velocity-sensitive, full-size keys, which provide a better, more genuine feel than many other MIDI keyboards in the same price range. All essential features are provided, including pitch bend and modulation wheels and octave +/- controls for access to the entire key range. The edition of the Keystation 61 is fitted with transport and navigation buttons as well, which means you can control your DAW from the MIDI keyboard without requiring a computer mouse.
Sustain pedal and software
To offer you a little extra expression, the M-Audio Keystation 61 II is equipped with a 6.3mm input for an optional sustain pedal. The accessory software has also been upgraded: in addition to Ableton Live Lite digital audio workstation, the virtual grand piano Eighty-Eight Ensemble by SONiVOX has also be included. This means you can get straight down to business recording and editing your key parts. An optional Apple Camera Connection Kit (separately available) enables you to connect the M-Audio Keystation 61 USB MIDI keyboard to your iOS devices.

Het keyboard voelt stevig aan, heeft full-size pianotoetsen en is erg prettig in het gebruik en handzaam op te ruimen als er bijvoorbeeld een elektrische gitaar moet worden aangesloten. Kortom: een mooie aankoop waarvan ik verwacht erg veel plezier te zullen hebben.

Aansluiting ging allemaal prima en in nog geen vijf minuten kon ik aan de slag. De pianosoftware die je erbij krijgt is werkelijk SUBLIEM! De geavanceerde functies van het keystation zelf heb ik nog niet zo nauw onderzocht, maar het was geen probleem om welke parameter dan ook in Ableton toe te wijzen aan bijv het MOD-wheel en meer heb ik ook niet nodig. Voor zover prima dus!
Wat me echter meteen opviel is dat de kracht die je op de toetsen legt lang niet even regelmatig binnenkomt in Ableton. Of dit een hardwarefout is of dat het aan het binnenkomende signaal ligt weet ik niet. Dit verschilt heel erg bij enkele toetsen en is enigszins te verhelpen als je een lagere velocitycurve in Ableton erop zet, maar als pianist is dit toch vrij funest aangezien je wel het volle bereik van de aanslaggevoeligheid moet kunnen gebruiken.. In mijn geval springt er één toets echt uit als ik met gevoel aan het spelen ben, en dat blijkt me meer en meer te storen nu ik er wat meer op gespeeld heb. Wat me wel opvalt is dat die toets iets stugger lijkt te zijn dan andere, dus misschien dat daardoor het signaal veel harder binnenkomt dan bij andere toetsen.
Je zou ermee kunnen leven, mits je er iets vanaf weet en in staat bent om de instellingen zodanig aan te passen dat het naderhand niet meer te horen is, maar het valt me inmiddels zodanig op tijdens het spelen dat ik als pianist twijfel om hem terug te sturen en wat dieper in de buidel te tasten voor een keyboard dat wat consistenter is qua aanslaggevoeligheid, nu ik toch bezig ben. Dit is echter geen grote verrassing voor deze prijs en mocht je hier niet zo mee zitten dan zou ik me daar niet door laten tegenhouden. Ik heb er tot nu toe een hoop plezier mee gehad!
Wel is het de eerste keer geweest dat een bestelling via Bax-shop te laat aangekomen is! Een dag later dan beloofd en daarnaast kwam hij pas om zeven uur 's avonds aan, terwijl hij naar schatting uiterlijk om drie uur bezorg zou worden volgens de tracering. Jammer, maar ik ga daar niet nog een ster voor aftrekken omdat het om het product gaat.
Drie en een halve ster vind ik meer op zijn plaats, maar vooruit.

Gebruik het apparaat om o.a. de Roland Integra aan te sturen in een homestudio en voldoet goed voor dat doel.
