The Nektar Impact LX Mini
Beside a tidy keyboard this model supplies a bank of eight pads and eight rotary encoders. Eerst via support, maar nu ook gewoon via de website, is de software voor DAW-support voor Garageband uitgebracht. Anders dan initieel aangegeven, zijn er twee versies uitgebracht: een voor oudere en een voor nieuwere versies van Mac OS / Garageband. Nog niet alle op de website genoemde functies worden foutloos ondersteund, maar de belangrijkste functies werken.
Verder blijkt de Impact LX Mini in de praktijk een fijn keyboardje (met o.a. een fijne arpeggiator functie), al zouden endless knobs de ervaring nog prettiger hebben gemaakt.

Ik heb weinig ervaring met andere (mini) MIDI-controllers, maar ik heb het idee dat het een mooi apparaat is. Compact, degelijk, veel mogelijkheden, toetsen en pads voelen goed. Waarom dan toch maar 1 ster?
Ik was op zoek naar een compacte MIDI-controller die Garageband ondersteunt, zodat ik op termijn eventueel zou kunnen overstappen naar Logic Pro zonder dan meteen weer een compleet nieuw pakket te moeten leren.
De keuze is dan beperkt. Je moet er een beetje voor spitten, maar dan kun je wel vinden dat bijvoorbeeld de M-Audio Oxygen Pro Mini (anders dan de grote modellen) geen ondersteuning biedt voor Garageband.
Ik heb dus specifiek voor de LX Mini gekozen omdat de website van Nektar en ook gewoon de doos van het product vermelden dat Garageband wél wordt ondersteund, en je volgens de website voor deze ondersteuning Mac OS X 10.7 of hoger nodig hebt.
Dat is helaas een leugen: ik heb net een berichtje gehad van de support afdeling van Nektar. Er is nog geen DAW integration voor Garageband, daar wordt nog aan gewerkt, en als het uitkomt heb je daar tenminste Mac OS 11 (Big Sur) voor nodig. En voor wie Logic Pro gebruikt en ook de LX Mini overweegt: DAW integration voor Logic Pro vereist minimaal Logic Pro 10.6 en Mac OS 10.15 (Catalina) of hoger.
