I have wanted an Ebow for years so after watching all the You Tube demos finally bought one from Bax Music. I love it. I love the sound of the sustain and the harmonic mode, it's inspiring some interesting aetherial soundscapes. However, it's not as easy as it looks to use. It works best with the neck pickup on my Strat. You need to 'slide' it from the bridge and as it approaches the pickup it starts to sustain the string, but it takes practice to perfect the technique. It's all about the proximity of the Ebow to the string to the pickup and trying not to catch the two adjacent strings it rests on as they will noisilly rub off the top of the pickup if you press too hard trying to get your sustain started. I'm getting there. It's a great addition to my kit. I'll just keep practicing until I'm more confident with my use of it. I would recommend that you watch all the videos first if you're considering buying one.
