General
Put the world's most popular ring modulator - the Moogerfooger MF-102 - in a compact stompbox and you have the Moog Minifooger MF Ring. The unique voicing circuitry of this effect pedal adds a new dimension to ring modification. Create anything from octaves and chorus-like dissonance to harmonic undertones and synth-like leads. The MF Ring is fitted with a CV input for hands-free control over the modulation frequency and, quite exceptionally, can also be powered by a single 9V battery instead of its regular power adapter.
Moog MF Ring: musical ring modulation
With only three knobs, the MF Ring takes you into a world of bizarre analogue effects. Use the Freq knob to tune the frequency of the oscillator to the root note of the desired scale. A lower setting produces subtle chorus effects and octaves, while beating and extreme musical dissonance occur on notes outside of the scale you've set. A mid setting produces a buzzing, tight sound, but turn the Freq knob all the way up and you'll end up with a synth or robot-like sound. The Mix knob allows you to adjust the balance between the dry sound and the effect.
Tone control and CV input
With the Tone knob you can decide whether you want to retain the natural, chime-like high-frequencies of the effect, or add a bit more warmth and musicality. It's an ideal way of adding texture, without letting it dominate the sound of your instrument. Finally, the MF Ring enables you to plug in a CB expression pedal, which allows you to control the frequency parameter, so you can create to most outrageous effects - from sweeping frequencies like a whammy to metal sounds and intense pitch effects.
