General
When Devine's Trono series was first introduced, it did not contain any subwoofers. Now it does, though! This B115 passive subwoofer is the ideal companion for the Trono 10 and Trono 12 speakers, which are also available at Bax-shop. It is equipped with a 35mm flange for a distance rod and delivers a powerful punch. Thanks to a frequency range that starts at a considerably low 35 Hz (-10 dB), it provides a full and deep sound at background level, with a substantial boost at full volume.
Technology of the B115 passive subwoofer
The B115 has a wooden housing, lined with black damping felt. Its 15-inch woofer provides a significant punch, which receives an additional boost from the two large bass reflex ports that are visible behind the grille. The woofer is equipped with a rugged 3-inch voice coil and has a capacity of 600 watts RMS.
The B115 subwoofer in practice
When you are setting up your sound system, it is best to use one amplifier for your B115 subwoofer, and another one for your satellite speakers (the Trono 10 or 12, for instance). Working with two separate amplifiers allows you to use a crossover, which means you can efficiently divide the frequencies of your audio signal before they are amplified. In theory, the subwoofer has a range of up to 3,500 Hz. Set it to a crossover frequency of approximately 250 Hz, however, and you can really optimise the bass reproduction, depending on the sound you desire.
Tips or comments about this product
Please note:
This subwoofer does not have its own amplifier or internal crossover/filter. This means that a proper amplifier that delivers enough power must be used, along with a signal processor (speaker management system or a crossover) that splits the incoming audio signal from the signal source, so that only the low tones go to the subwoofer. This subwoofer cannot reproduce high tones. Sending a full-range, unfiltered audio signal to the subwoofer can cause permanent damage! Audio signals with frequencies higher than 3,500 Hz must not be sent to the subwoofer. A suitable and advisable crossover setting is between 100 and 250 Hz, for optimal sound performance.
