After his return to Dream Theater, it was about time for Mike Portnoy to enlist the help of Sabian and give his setup a hefty upgrade. The Sabian HHX MAX Ride forms a core part of that upgrade, where every one of Portnoy’s all-time favourites have been mixed up to form his ultimate mega-ride, resulting in a 22 inch beauty that takes a lot of its DNA from the original HH Rock Ride Brilliant that he's been playing with since the beginning. This model has also been treated to some of the newer elements of the Anniversary Artisan Raw Bell Dry Ride, so the bell has been left raw, resulting in a forceful response and big projection. This all-new HHX Series ride also combines the hand-hammered style of the HH and HHX Series models, giving the sound a really unique texture and completing what Sabian has described as a medium-heavy powerhouse in a brilliant finish. In short, this signature ride is an excellent all-rounder, especially when it comes to prog, rock, fusion or metal.
