Guild M-85 Bass semi-acoustic bass guitar

Guild's Newark St. Collection offers a number of modernised guitars that were at the height of popularity back in the '60s. This Guild M-85 bass is a semi-acoustic short-scale bass, very much akin to the M-75 Aristocrat and based on models from the mid-sixties. This black bass is compact, both in regards to scale length (30.75 inches) and body size - it's only 7 cm deep. Thanks to the potent Guild Bi-Sonic Bass pickup and the semi-hollow body, the M085 sounds much bigger than it really is.

Guild M-85 Bass

This semi-hollow body has a laminated spruce archtop with sides and back of laminated maple. An elegant ivory white binding runs along the edges, and you'll find that this bass has a warm, dark sound. You won't get any of that modern punch or overstated overtones, just a nice, old-school sound. The three-part mahogany neck features a vintage soft-U profile for a comfortable grip, and the rosewood fingerboard has 21 frets with pearloid position markers.

Bridge / tailpiece and tuners

The M-85 is a stable instrument, thanks to the combination bridge / tailpiece, which also features rosewood saddles for a woody timbre. You'll enjoy stable tuning with the Grover tuners, which feature striking tuning pegs. The guitar is finished in Jet Black with a glossy polyurethane lacquer. Plenty of bass players are bound to fall for the charms of the Guild M-85, and they'll have fun taking it everywhere in the plushy, lined case that comes with it.
