General
The Tan Tan (pictured right) is a samba instrument derived from the larger Bateria. Especially indoors but also in parades and with street musicians, you will see the Tan Tan. The instrument gives a very deep and somewhat harsh sound but there is also warmth in it. The Tan Tan is a bass drum and you will be surprised how much low comes out of it while it is also a hand drum. The smaller brother of the Tan Tan is the Rebolo. A handy carrying strap comes with the Tan Tan so you are ready to hit the streets.
