Epiphone ES-335 Vintage Sunburst Semi-Acoustic Guitar

I can't believe Epiphone can make such a great guitar for this price. I bought mine B stock and it was absolutely clean out of the box. I've not had it set up as the action is fine for me. I've played it at acoustic sessions with friends and it definitely holds its own - quite warm and not too loud! The pickups sound good plugged into my GP-200 and through the studio monitors - not put it through my valve amp yet but I'm sure it will sound great. I was worried about the body size before I bought it but I find it very comfortable - I pick it up in preference to my US Fenders right now!

Na iets te veel Rush te hebben geluisterd voor een periode wilde ik semi-impulsief een ES-335 om de klanken te kunnen krijgen van Alex Lifeson, zonder gek veel te moeten betalen. Deze Epiphone kwam vrij snel tevoorschijn als één van de betere series/versies van de ES en dat bleek ook aardig snel na het oppakken van de gitaar.
De Alnico Pro PAF-style pickups klinken erg goed, de hollowbody geeft een diepte en warmte aan de klanken en heeft fantastische sustain. Daarnaast speelt het ook erg comfortabel dankzij de grotere body. De gitaar vereist wel een kleine set-up. Bij het uitpakken was de action nogal hoog rond de 12e snaar en er zaten wat onaangename kleine krasjes aan de onderkant in de lengte van het fretboard op de frets en de binding. Ook is Indisch Laurier kurkdroog en zou wat conditioning (zoals lemon oil of iets vergelijkbaars) enorm helpen. Buiten dat om heeft de gitaar misschien niet de meest luxe uitstraling t.o.v. de wat duurdere modellen maar dat maakt het weer goed met hoe prettig het speelt (en kost).

Na lang overwegen en rijp beraad heb ik besloten om de Epiphone ES-335 te verkiezen boven de Gibson ES-335, en ik ben heel tevreden met mijn keuze. Dit is een heel goed klinkend instrument dat bovendien zeer aangenaam in de hand ligt en heel fijn klinkt. Dit is zonder enige twijfel exact wat ik wilde, net zoals John Lennon indertijd de Epiphone Casino verkoos boven de (duurdere !) Gibson. Deze gitaar kan enkel nog beter worden eens voldoende ingspeeld. En ze lijkt me ook iets minder zwaar dan de Gibson ES-335 die ik ooit had maar nooit mijn weg op vond.
Enkel goede punten voor deze Epiphone dus !!!
