General
The Gretsch G6120 was designed mid-1950s in close collaboration with country artist Chet Atkins. In fact, it was Chet who came up with the idea of the renowned 1959 trestle bracing, a type of body reinforcement that reduces feedback when the guitar is amplified. Gretsch was one of the first manufacturers to issue guitars with bold colours. While other guitar brands stuck to traditional finishes and sunbursts, Gretsch used the sparkling lacquers from its drums division. To honour that tradition, this limited edition model has a lush Cadillac Green finish.
Construction
The body of the Gretsch G6120 hollow-body is made of three-ply laminated maple and has an arched top. Its maple neck has a scale length of 24.6 inches and is fitted with a 22-fret ebony fretboard with characteristic neo classic thumbnail position markers. The guitar has the same design characteristics as the immensely popular 1959 model, including the patented 1959 trestle bracing and extensive tone controls. Two High Sensitive Filter'Tron pickups make sure that your playing is registered and a Bigsby vibrato unit is the icing on the cake.
Limited Edition Atkins Cadillac Green
It's quite surprising that the Gretsch G6120 has never been issued in this colour before. The Cadillac Green finish looks stunning in combination with the gold-plated hardware, ornaments, and the gold-coloured pickguard that proudly bears the signature of the man who gave the guitar its name. Like the 1959 original, this Atkins model allows for elaborate tone control by means of three volume knobs (neck pickup, bridge pickup and master volume), and is fitted with a 3-way switch and - last but not least - a 3-way auxiliary switch for master tone control. The gold-plated Grover Rotomatic tuners, meanwhile, ensure optimal tuning stability.
