General

The sound of your kick drum is amplified beautifully when you place a Shure Beta 91 boundary microphone inside the drum itself. The downside is that the microphone may move about, because of the vibrations the kick drum creates. To prevent this from happening, Kelly SHU developed the Flatz: a shock mount system that is easy to mount and makes sure that the Beta 91 won't be going anywhere. Plus, the Kelly SHU Flatz allows your microphone to rest on an isolated platform inside the shell, isolating it from any unwanted noises, caused by the vibrations.

Mounting the Flatz

The Kelly SHU shock mount system was developed specifically for use inside a bass drum. You can install the system within minutes, and without having to drill into the shell, because the Flatz can be mounted on the screws that are already inside the drum. Once it is installed, the Flatz will hold the Shure Beta 91 in place so firmly, that you can actually leave it there when transporting your drums. Therefore, the Flatz is not only ideally suited for use in the studio, but also on stage! To make everything as clear as possible, you will also receive an installation manual with illustrated instructions.
