Tama's HP900PN Iron Core Power Glide bass drum pedal is the successor to the highly successful HP900PSN. This single bass drum pedal has been improved in a number of areas compared to its predecessor. The base plate and frame have been made wider for greater stability. There's a new beater too, in the form of the Power Strike Cobra which gives a fuller sound with better action. A closer look reveals that the connection between the footboard and the base plate has been changed too, again for greater stability and improved action. The new Hinge Guard block now means no lateral movement or squeaking either.

The Para Clamp II Pro ensures a secure attachment to the bass drum hoop and won't leave any scratches. By using rubber, it won't come loose during playing. Tama clearly took another look at 2014's successful Speed Cobra series when it came to improving the action. The same Lite Sprocket used on that series can now be found on all the new Iron Cobra models. It's Lite Sprocket that gives the chain a better connection with the footboard improving the action. Finally, the Swivel Spring Tight system allows the base of the spring to swivel with the pedal's movement for a more natural feel and optimal smoothness. The pedal comes complete with a specially designed hardcase.
Rolling Glide or Power Glide?
You may well be wondering what the actual difference is between a Power Glide and a Rolling Glide pedal. The difference lies in how the beater hits the drum. In a Power Glide pedal the beater is given extra speed by the cam just before it strikes the skin which can be handy for rock and pop drummers. With a Rolling Glide pedal the speed is more uniform. The cam is the part the beater is attached to and over which the chain runs down.

Tja, en wat kan ik dan nog toevoegen aan die tientallen positieve reviews die ik las over dit bass drum pedaal? Ik kan ze alleen maar bevestigen. Ik speel nu ongeveer twee weken met dit pedaal en het voldoet aan alle verwachtingen. Het is helemaal in te stellen op mijn eigen wensen en het voelt stevig als een huis. Ik kan natuurlijk nog niks zeggen over de duurzaamheid. Maar als ik af ga op de Iron Cobra in de repetitieruimte, waar Jan en alleman en dagelijks vele uren op spelen dan zit het met die duurzaamheid wel goed. Het ziet er namelijk oud en verweerd uit, maar wat betreft het gebruik voelt het nog net zo als mijn eigen splinter nieuwe Iron Cobra.
Kortom: helemaal gelukkig met deze aankoop. En ook met de snelle service van Bax, want ik had het pedaal al de volgende dag in huis.

Zelf heb ik ook een dubbel pedaal van deze serie gehad en een Pearl illuminator.
Dit pedaal is absoluut top!
