General

In their Dirty '30s Series, Recording King offer the affordable yet dynamic steel-string Single 0 acoustic guitar with a spruce top, bone nut and Harmonella stencil position markers. Besides the glued nato neck, the fingerboard, bridge and other parts that shape the RPS-7 are made using ecologically aware materials. Sustainable whitewood forms the back and sides to provide a character similar to pine wood, while the fingerboard is made with a material called revebond. This all results in a clear, rounded sound that suits both finger-picking or strumming playing styles.

I think it's a very solid and well made instrument which feels quite heavy. I cannot find fault with the finish on my instrument though the fretboard and bridge looked very dry. It has a thin neck and low action, so it's very easy to play. It's loud and has a bright sound. Intonation is perfect. Some may not like the black matt finish which tends to show up finger marks. The machineheads are cheap looking but work fine. It's a great guitar: I don't think you will find anything else in this price range to compete with it.

I wanted to order a brand new Recording King 30's parlor size guitar but I stumbled upon the B-stock version which was significantly cheaper. I was scared if the B-stock might be a bad choice but I was surprised with the quality of this guitar. First of all the packaging was top notch despite of being a B-stock guitar. Secondly and most importantly, this plays really good. You can hear the single note so clearly because of the parlor size and the quick reaction the body gives. This is no way a strummer's guitar but certainly a guitar for the fingerstyle folks. Lastly, the setup was good but I had to increase the action a little bit but that is different from person to person. All and all a good investment.
