The Steven Slate Audio VSX Immersion One is an 'open-back' studio headphone of unapproachable quality. On their own, these headphones sound excellent, clean, spacious and accurate. But when you combine this model with the VSX Platinum software (this requires an iLok account), you get spatial modelling of unprecedented beauty, especially in this price range. You simply choose a studio space from a list, and then (listening with this Immersion One) it is as if you were in that space. So, well, you can recreate that original room, with overpriced insulation and studio monitors that are also worth the price of a fat German car.... or you put on these headphones. Which is the more economical solution, you suspect? Not only do you choose from rooms (including a car!), you can also simulate specific headphones. In short, you can check your mix in many virtual situations, and that makes A/B'ing with these headphones especially valuable. It's an investment, but for the professional, it's a virtually indispensable addition to the studio.
