For most studios, a dependable studio monitor controller is indispensable. The Palmer Monicon L is a sleek, fuss-free example that's easily set up between your interface and your monitors for accurate volume control. It's passive too, so the included power supply is only required to power the LEDs and the headphone amplifier.

The Palmer Monicon L: Inputs & Outputs

In terms of inputs, the controller comes equipped with a left+right XLR/jack input, an RCA AUX input and a stereo mini-jack input. The outputs, meanwhile, include two L+R XLR outputs and a single mono sum output - enough for two pairs of stereo monitors plus a mono monitor!

Controller Controls

On the top and front of the controller, Palmer have fitted options to switch between input 1 (L+R XLR) or input 2 (AUX); output 1 or 2 or a mono sum; or between stereo and mono. In addition, the Monicon L sets you up with a PLF switch, a large volume knob and a mute control. Lastly, a pair of headphones can be plugged in via the front-fitted jack input, the volume of which can be individually adjusted - just like the AUX input volume.

Als je mixer wat verder weg staat en je een volumeknop op je bureau nodig hebt is dit precies wat je nodig hebt.
Mijn subjectieve oordeel:
Het apparaat is groter dan ik dacht en de opschriften zijn duidelijk maar erg aanwezig. De houten zijpanelen passen wel goed bij de rest van mijn studio. Meestal ben ik aan het werk met hoofdtelefoon en bij gedimd licht en dan knallen de groene en rode led's er wel uit. Ik had een stelschroef voor 'brightness' wel kunnen gebruiken. Mijn oren zijn niet meer zo goed (ongelijk) en omdat ik veel met synthesizers en links-rechts effecten werk zocht ik een monitorcontroller met mono knop. Helaas werkt de mono-knop niet voor de hoofdtelefoonuitgang, die is altijd stereo. Daarvoor moet ik dan toch weer terug naar de mixer voor een mono 'scene'.
Eén ster aftrek voor het ontbreken van mono op de hoofdtelefoonuitgang.
