General

While those mixing in an average-size room will get the sound they need from a pair of 5" or 6" studio monitors, if you've got a bigger and more professional, acoustically-treated recording studio to build, you're actually going to need the lows shaped by a dedicated subwoofer. After all, those nearfields only have a 50Hz roll-off, which definitely isn't enough to cover the 30Hz lows of something like an orchestra. That's where the KRK S12.4 active studio subwoofer comes in. This unit effortlessly adds a beefy chunk of bass to the sound - and that's actually an understatement. In terms of practical use, this top-tier bass bin hits the 26Hz mark and can even go as low as 23Hz at -10dB. Seriously, with these kinds of frequency-range-based margins, there's nothing you can't mix to perfection.

Wrote the following about KRK S12.4 Active Studio Subwoofer (Single Unit)

Fantastische subwoofer!

Omdat hij vrij groot is, levert het apparaat sterke en diepe klanken. Als je niet gewend bent aan grotere luidsprekers, kan dit in het begin vrij intimiderend overkomen. De subwoofer is makkelijk aan te sluiten, en het bedieningspaneel aan de achterkant is eenvoudig te gebruiken. Het apparaat is duidelijk gemaakt van duurzaam materiaal. Kwalitatief hoogwaardig spul! De grootte van je studio-monitoren maakt niet veel uit, zolang je maar de juiste balans creëert tussen de subwoofer en je monitoren.

(Ik maak momenteel gebruik van de KRK Rokit 5 monitoren, overweeg om over te stappen naar de 7" speakers.)

Hoewel de subwoofer prima is om mee te produceren, gebruik ik hem eerlijk gezegd tegenwoordig meer om muziek te luisteren.

Wat betreft de grootte van de luidspreker: hij moet wel in de desbetreffende ruimte passen. In mijn kamer past hij maar net onder mijn bureau!

Conclusie: top luidspreker!
