In case you're not familiar with the Minimoog, here's a quick run-down: the Minimoog is an analogue mono synth loaded with three oscillators, a noise oscillator and an external input. Any sound you slap up can be routed to a filter that has its own envelope, and to a VCA with a dedicated volume envelope. In addition, you get an LFO, aftertouch and a touch-responsive keyboard. While this set-up may seem basic, don't forget that the number of pop hits that wouldn't have existed if the Minimoog hadn't been around is actually mind-boggling. It's exactly this intuitively simple lay-out that allows keyboardists - past and present - to whip up fresh sounds in a heartbeat. That being said, the Minimoog is mostly renowned for its one-of-a-kind analogue sound.
