Moog must have thought it was time for their own Eurorack model, and the result sure is a sight to behold: the Moog Mother-32 semi-modular analogue synthesizer. Equipped with a range of switches, buttons and knobs, this desktop module gives you all the controls you need to tweak your output to perfection. The Mother-32's oscillator (with sawtooth and square wave options) has a delightfully Moogy sound, just like the synth's Moog Ladder filter (LP/HP). Discover a world of possibilities and special sounds, and even add a little modularity to your setup! Use the step sequencer at the bottom of the control panel to produce funky bass lines, and optimise the timbre with the synthesizer's knobs. With the Mother-32, Moog has developed a comprehensive synth that offers hands-on control.
The Moog Mother 32: Semi-modular synth
What makes the Mother-32 so special, however, is the patch bay on the right side of the control panel. Hook up the 32 modular patch connectors using mini jack patch cables, and you'll be able to combine various features, allowing the source to influence the destination. Route the envelope to the filter cut-off input, for instance, or to the volume, the pitch, etc. Link the VCO output to the VCO LIN FM, and you're even able to use FM synthesis. In other words, there are far more options than the already quite impressive control panel would have you believe.
One, two or three?
What if you really need an extra oscillator, an additional filter, or some more patch connectors? Moog has issued special (optionally available) racks, which enable you to vertically mount two or even three Mother-32s. Not only does that look quite impressive, it creates an incredibly practical setup too. With two or three of these Moogs stacked on top of each other, you'll be able to produce the most outstanding sounds. Furthermore, you'll have not one, but two or three step sequencers at your disposal. If you have the means, you might even consider investing in several complete racks, and create your own semi-modular wall!

1 oscilator doet niks te kort
De echte warme Moogsound is hier duidelijke aanwezig en inspireert heel snel tot mooie loops.
neem even de tijd voor de sequencer en dan kan je los. nu nog het patchen een beetje door krijgen... en dan wil ik er nog wel een over een tijd!! en dan linken!

Ik heb deze synth echter geretourneerd omdat ik qua workflow toch liever had dat de patchgaten per module waren gezet, net als bij Eurorack modules, en dus niet alle patchgaten bij elkaar. Dat is voor mijn manier van werken overzichtelijker.
Toch geef ik de synth 5 sterren omdat alles gewoon top kwaliteit is.

Wat een vrij klein nadeel mag heten, er is geen MIDI-out (dus geen mogelijkheden tot pure MIDI throughput naar andere Mother-32's dus).

Het idee van moog is volgens mij dat je er meerdere koopt (duur joh) en ze dan in zo'n moog-rekje zet, maar hij is helemaal compatibel met alle andere Eurorack modules.
Overigens gebruik ik hem zelf voor die lekkere moog-basgeluiden en hoef ik hem niet zonodig uit te breiden. Wie weet komt dat ooit nog maar nu geniet ik er al van.
