General

This special percussive instrument is an udu (pronounced as 'oo-do') and features a tunable batter head at the bottom for a wide range of tonal possibilities. By virtue of its 43 cm height and 31 cm diameter, Schlagwerk's U70S Skin Udu sounds softly warm and deeply harmonious. Finished in white, this model has a black neck and detailing and comes complete with a stand ring.

Traditionally Nigerian

Originating from Nigeria, the udu was originally used as a jug before Igbo women starting using them to play music. Udus produce a characteristically deep and powerful sound, and you can change the pitch by placing your hand over the sound hole in different ways. Remarkably versatile, they're even great for playing light ghost notes and it won't take any self-respecting percussionist long to find their way around this special percussion instrument.
