The Blue Tiki might look like a strange duckling, but it is chuck-full of technology. It's the first USB multimedia microphone with an advanced DSP processor. This DSP ensures that speech and vocals are clearly reproduced. Furthermore, the Tiki has an intelligent voice isolation and noise-cancelling mechanism, which makes it ideal for Skype calls, online broadcasting and even YouTube videos!
Tiki: compact, versatile and easy to use
The Tiki is very compact, so that you can take it with you in your laptop case or jacket pocket no problem! From now on you'll have a high-quality mic on you at all times. As it is omnidirectionally sensitive, you won't have to sit directly in front of the microphone. The Tiki can mute the signal when you stop talking and start again as soon as you continue your discourse. Its status can be read from a multi-coloured LED at the side. There are two different settings for speech and recording.
Two settings
As a Skype user, podcaster or musician, you can select the best option for any situation thanks to two settings. The first, the Intelligent Speech mode, brings your voice to the fore. Thanks to noise cancelling, annoying noises from laptop fans, keyboards and busy environments are eliminated. When set to the Natural Recording mode, the Tiki operates as a traditional microphone and picks up a wide range of sources with exceptional clarity, making it ideal for use in podcasts or live recordings of your band.

Het is een mooi ding! Zelfs de kunststof opbergdoos is mooi.
Bij het plaatsen van de microfoon in het verlengstuk valt mij op dat een deel van de vergulde contacten nog steeds zichtbaar zijn. Niet echt ideaal. De verlengsnoer is zeer handig. Mocht je de microfoon niet rechtstreeks in een USB poort willen steken, biedt deze snoer uitkomst. Ik gebruik een klein statief met een microfoonklem en dat werkt erg goed.
Het opgenomen geluid (in Audacity op de Mac) is niet zo zuiver als je zou willen. Er is een brom op de achtergrond. Mijn AKG Perception 120 met Blue Icicle geeft geen brom op de Mac. Het ligt dus aan de Tiki.
De microfoon schakelt lekker snel tussen mute en aan. Het wegfilteren van achtergrondgeluiden lukt best aardig, maar je stem klinkt enigszins vreemd. Een beetje blikkerig. Niet zo blikkerig als bij andere systemen in het verleden. in de rondom stand klinkt de stem weer natuurlijk en de kwaliteit is ronduit goed. De schakelaar om tussen filterstand (blauwe en rode LED) en rondom stand (paarse LED) is nogal vreemd. Je voelt geen klik.
Voor gebruik met Skype zal de vervorming van de stem niet zo'n probleem zijn. Liever dat dan de bijgeluiden van een PC (een Mac maakt vrijwel geen geluid). Voor opnames is de rondom stand prima en zal niet teleurstellen - tenzij die vervelende brom aanwezig is.
