Walrus Audio Canvas Expression puts a modern spin on the classic expression pedal. Instead of strings, gears or a potentiometer, this pedal uses a contactless magnetic position sensor. This means: a super-smooth sweep, consistent response and a long service life without any wear-prone mechanical parts. What’s more, it’s not just ‘any’ expression pedal, but a genuine command centre for your pedalboard, synth rig or desktop/DAW setup. With two independently adjustable analogue outputs and separate MIDI via TRS and USB-C, you can control multiple parameters or devices simultaneously.

Dual outputs, wide compatibility

Jack A and Jack B can be configured individually as expression outputs, switch outputs or CV outputs. For expression, the Canvas Expression supports multiple wiring schemes and automatic detection: TRS (e.g. Yamaha, Korg), RTS (including Walrus, Boss, Neural, Chase Bliss, Strymon) and TS resistance mode (including Line 6 M Series and HX Series). You can also choose tapers and reverse the sweep direction, so that ‘heel down’ or ‘toe down’ becomes your minimum. This is useful if you use multiple brands in a single setup or want to switch quickly.

MIDI, CV and in-depth configuration

As well as being an analogue unit, the Canvas Expression is a powerful MIDI controller. It features a 1/8” TRS Type A MIDI In/Out and MIDI via USB-C, which operate independently of one another. Using the Canvas Expression web editor (https://canvasexp.walrusaudio.io), you can assign MIDI CC and PC messages (up to 16 per MIDI output) and even use high-resolution 14-bit MIDI via USB-C for extra-smooth parameter movements in your DAW or plugins. For synths and modular systems, there is CV with selectable ranges (0–5V or 0–3.3V). Robustly constructed from steel and aluminium, designed and assembled in the US.
