General
The API 550A Special Edition is a piece of legendary studio history in a 500-series module. Designed by Saul Walker in the late 1960s, this discrete 3-band equaliser took the consoles of the world’s leading recording studios by storm and is still regarded as the benchmark against which other EQs are measured. With 7 carefully selected frequencies per band, up to 12 dB of boost/cut, switchable shelf/peak filters and the characteristic ‘Proportional Q’, it offers the warm, musical precision that has captivated generations of producers. Pure, discrete, timeless: this is sound with pedigree.
