IGS Audio Alter 500 FET compressor

General

The IGS Audio Alter 500 FET compressor is a 500-series module inspired by the legendary UREI 1176. This compact compressor is packed with useful features that make it ideal for many instruments such as guitars, basses or vocals. The top knob controls the input level and depth of compression and the second knob compensates the output level. A dedicated 'SLAM' switch adds a mode in which all stops are pulled out and the compressor goes completely wild on the signal. For a quick visual overview of the effect, there is a VU meter consisting of 20 LEDs, which displays the applied gain reduction.

Tailor-made compression

Both the attack and release time of the Alter 500 can be adjusted thanks to rocker switches with three positions. For the attack, you can choose from a lightning-fast 20 microseconds, or 400 or 800 microseconds. The release is 50, 600 or 1100 milliseconds. The compression ratio can be set from 1:1 to 20:1. In the 1:1 mode, no compression is applied and the module functions as a line amplifier with maximum gain of 36 dB. The 20:1 mode, on the other hand, can be used as a limiter.
