General

The Photon 500 from IGS Audio is an analogue optical compressor in 500-series format. It is based on the legendary optical compressor technology from the 1960s. It has simple controls: for the compression ratio, you can choose, with a switch, between 2:1, 4:1 or 12:1. The peak reduction knob then controls the degree of compression and the output knob controls the volume of the output signal. There is also a bypass switch that turns off the effect and a high-pass filter that filters out unwanted low-frequency noise. Finally, a mode switch that switches between two modes, each with its own character.
