This left-handed Triple-O size western guitar from Sigma Guitars sounds as fine as it looks. The sound of this beauty is as warm and dark as the colour of the sound box. In itself, this is not so surprising as the entire sound box is made of mahogany. In addition, the top is also solid, which means in practice that the top resonates and projects the sound better. Its warm sound makes this 000M-15L very suitable for 'treble-heavy' guitar styles such as slide guitar.

Construction and sound

Fans of this type of guitar often describe their instrument with the cry "All mahogany, all good". Actually, there is little more to add to that; the soundbox is indeed made entirely of mahogany. The mahogany neck's 20-fret micarta fingerboard adds to the warm sound. In terms of looks, it is clear that the 000M-15L is closely related to Martin Guitars' M-series. In terms of sound and finish too, the 000M-15 is very similar to its American brother. The guitar features high-quality hardware with Grover tuning machines and a bridge and top nut made of bovine bone. So in terms of tone and tuning stability, this western guitar is fine. With the Sigma 000M-15L, you get a lot of guitar for your money!

Sigma guitars

The first Sigma guitars saw the light in 1970 and were manufactured by the well-known firm Martin and Co. They were meant to counterbalance the growing stream of inexpensive guitars from the East. Production ceased in 2007 and four years later the rights to the name were bought up by a German firm. With Martin's approval, the guitars are now made in China. Mind you, the headstock design and construction methods still refer to the old parent company. Hence, the guitars have to meet strict requirements. In fact, Sigma guitars offer you a good and inexpensive alternative. In the United States, Sigma guitars are therefore distributed by Martin, albeit under the name 'Kindred guitars'. The reason is that Martin had inadvertently allowed the copyright on the name 'Sigma guitars' to expire.
