That there are close family ties between this Sigma Guitars DM-15L and Martin's model of the same name should be obvious. This kinship certainly manifests itself not only in looks but also in the sound and craftsmanship with which this DM-15L is manufactured. Fortunately, the price tag attached to this Sigma DM-15L is a lot more modest than that of its cousin. That while the wood and hardware have certainly not been skimped on. For instance, the tuners are by Grover and both the bridge and nut are made of real bovine bone instead of plastic. Besides, this is the left-handed version!

Warm sound and plenty of volume

For certain 'treble heavy' guitar techniques, the usual spruce top can result in unpleasantly bright higher tones. This plays into it with slide guitar, among others. In such a case, it is important to choose a guitar with a warm base tone. Even in a band situation with more than one guitar, it is nice if both guitars have a different tone colour. Apart from that, the mahogany soundboard of this DM-15L simply provides a particularly pleasant and warm sound. As you might expect from a dreadnought model, this is accompanied by considerable volume. The top is also solid, this provides better projection and extra resonance. Sigma Guitars: History Continues

The first Sigma guitars saw the light of day in 1970 and were manufactured by the well-known firm Martin and Co. They were meant to counterbalance the growing stream of inexpensive guitars from the East. Production ceased in 2007 and four years later the rights to the name were bought up by a German firm. With Martin's approval, the guitars are now made in China. Mind you, the headstock design and construction methods still refer to the old parent company. Hence, the guitars have to meet strict requirements. In fact, Sigma guitars offer you a good and inexpensive alternative. In the united States, Sigma guitars are therefore distributed by Martin, albeit under the name 'Kindred guitars'. The reason for this is that Martin had let the copyright on the name 'Sigma guitars' expire.
