The F1 Model 812 active speaker builds upon their highly acclaimed 802 speakers. The biggest difference here is that the F1 has four different vertical coverage patterns so that the direction of the sound can be adjusted to suit your environment. It's equipped with 8 drivers in a mid/high line array each mounted in a flexible waveguide. The top three and bottom three drivers are adjustable giving you the four different coverage patterns. The Bose F1 Model 812: Line Array

Line-array speakers have certain special properties. They lose far less volume over larger distances than standard speakers. Multiple speakers, in this case 8 drivers, are mounted on top of one another to create a linear source of sound that carries further. The fact that you can then adjust the vertical direction of the sound makes this Bose speaker extremely efficient. The F1 Model 812 also has a 12-inch woofer fitted behind the 8 drivers for lovely lows. An intelligent DSP engine ensures optimal sound is delivered regardless of the sound's direction.

Connections

This speaker is part of Bose's F1 series which also features a subwoofer that you can combine with the F1 Model 812 to make a complete sound system. On the back of the F1 Model 812 is a switch that activates a low pass filter to prevent any phase problems. Inputs are also found on the back with an XLR/jack combo for channel 1 and stereo RCA inputs or a TRS jack for channel 2. You'll find an XLR line output there too, as well as a limiter switch to protect the speaker.
