Zoom iQ7 MS Stereo Microphone for iOS

General

The Zoom iQ7 MS is a high-grade stereo microphone that plugs directly into the Lightning connector of your iPad, iPhone or iPod, and enables you to make video and audio recordings of a much higher quality than the in-built microphone of your smartphone or tablet. The letters MS refer to the mid-side character of the microphone. In other words, you can decide for yourself whether you want to create a spacious or a more focused stereo image. The two microphones of the iQ7 can be positioned as desired, and an included windscreen reduces breath or wind noise to a minimum.

iQ7: Spacious or Directional

The iQ7 is fitted with a 3-way switch to toggle between a 90-degree setting that puts the emphasis on the front microphone (and registers centrally located sources)for a more focused stereo image, or a 120-degree setting to create a wider, more spacious tone, including ambient sound (picked up by the rear, bidirectional microphone). The special M-S setting, in combination with the free-of-charge downloadable Handy Recorder app, allows you to determine the balance between both microphones yourself, meaning you're free to create a sound that perfectly matches your recording project.

Input Level, Output and Apps

If you're using a serious microphone like the iQ7, of course you can't do without decent gain control to ensure that soft sounds are recorded at a sufficient volume and that loud sources are registered without distortion while the practical LED indicators keep you abreast of your input level. The iQ7 is compatible with nearly any iOS app that supports recording with an external microphone, including Zoom's own Handy Recorder app. A 3.5mm input allows you to monitor your recordings using headphones, or to transfer them to an external audio device.
